Jugen Klopp’s Liverpool managed to beat FC Porto in the Champions League round of 16 after a goalless second-leg draw at Anfield which paved way for the club’s 5-0 aggregate win.
Since 2009, this season has been Liverpool’s first time to reach the last eight by setting up a comfortable victory. However, manager Klopp said that the success “should not be a big surprise.”
The Reds’ next opponents will be announced when the draw has been made on March 16 (get the best betting odds for bigger winning chances).
The quarter final ties will also take place in the first and second weeks of April. But whoever Liverpool face, Klopp simply expressed, “We take it how it comes,” and added “We don’t wish for anybody. We play whoever we get.”
Liverpool manager acknowledges that the next round will be difficult considering that seven other good teams are in the race to get the prestigious title.
Despite the challenge ahead, Klopp also believes that his squad has a chance for sure to go to the semi-finals.
In the UCL post-match interview, the Reds manager said: “We did the job and that was it tonight.
“It wasn’t the most exciting game but we controlled it, had a few chances, got a clean sheet and gave some boys some minutes. I am pretty sure it is rare to have a game like this in the knockout stages!
“We needed to be serious and we were, so all good. Of course, we want to win two games at this stage. When you watch the game you always think ‘oh come on, a little bit more here or there’ but they did well and it is all good. The attitude was outstanding.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool are expected to be back in the Premier League action on Saturday as they travel to Old Trafford and face Manchester United (Sign Up to get the comprehensive match preview and result).
