Blackstenius netted another goal to give Arsenal their third goal of the game in the 35th minute before it was quickly ruled out for offside. After the break Chelsea boss Emma Hayes made several tactical changes. However, all changes did not work as Arsenal held on to win the title.

“We are all aware we have not won a trophy for a few years and to win in the way we did made it more special,” Arsenal captain Kim Little said. “To be down 1-0 made it tougher but after that, we played really well and deserved our victory.”

“We’re Arsenal and we need to win titles and trophies and we’re disappointed we haven’t been able to do that until now but we’ve done it,” Little added. “These are the games we want to play,” Arsenal coach Jonas Eidevall said. “To get results creates belief. It was really important to get that reward and now we can be filled with belief for all the games going forward.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea were runners-up for two consecutive finals now after winning three successive Women’s Super League titles. “The blistering start killed us. We sat off when they got the first goal,” Chelsea manager Emma Hayes said. “I’m disappointed with us. You can’t concede three goals against a team that haven’t won a lot, which they haven’t domestically.

Earlier, Arsenal lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup last week. Both teams are now focused on the Women’s Super League where Arsenal trail third-placed Chelsea by five points. The Gunners face Liverpool next at  Meadow Park, while the Blues host Brighton at Kingsmeadow.
