The first half of the match was quite interesting to watch as both teams failed to score. However, in the second and final half, Van Dink scored a header in the 70th minute for the first goal of the match. The Egypt International Mohamed Salah then added to Liverpool’s lead over the struggling Wolverhampton and to score his 20th goal of the season. With this convincing victory, the Reds are now moving up to sixth in the table, with just six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

In a post-match interview, Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp addressed his overall impression of the game: “I thought the whole story of the game is an important one for us to take. I think we did a lot of good stuff in the first half, played the way we had to play.

“We didn’t create that many clear-cut chances, the best one was probably the header from Harvey Elliott which he missed. Second half, around the disallowed goal, we increased the pressure and this kind of thing.”

On the losing side, Wolves were frustrated to lose this match as they already performed their best defensive performance in the first half, isolating Liverpool’s lack of backups and poor passing. Despite that great defense, Wolves were kind of horrible on the offensive ends. They just had one shot on target and they wasted it. Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui admitted their shortcoming and said that they didn’t deserve to be in this game playing like an amateur.

“It was frustrating because we didn’t get anything here but we didn’t deserve to get anything. Maybe in the first half, but in the second half we didn’t keep the rhythm and when they scored it was more difficult of course,” he said in an interview. “We lost one match – it’s a pity but we have to change our mindset very fast as in three days we have another important match. But this wasn’t a good match for us,” he added.

Liverpool exacted their revenge to Wolves where they suffered a 3-0 defeat last month. The Reds took advantage of the limited Wolves and intently dominated the match in the second half with two goals in just seven minutes to thump out the visitor’s chance for two consecutive victories. In Matheus Cunha’s absence due to a failed fitness test after he sustained an ankle injury, Lopetegui immediately replaced the Brazil striker with midfielder Joao Moutinho. However, this was not enough to contain Liverpool and still suffer a huge defeat at Anfield and endanger themselves once again into the relegation zone.
