This is the first third-round exit of Chelsea in the FA Cup for 25 years. The Algerian Star registered the opening goal in the 4-0 rampage over Graham Potter’s side via a stunning curl into the top-right corner. He scored his second goal in the second half, with a penalty kick at the 85th minute for the fourth and final goal of the match for Manchester City, advancing to the fourth round without any help of their star striker Erling Haaland. Pep Guardiola had some high praise for Mahrez’s stunning performance in this match: “The quality of Riyad is everything. He loves to play football, he helped us to play the game.” The Manchester City manager also added that the Algerian showed his love for the game, “He never lost his love. He loves to play football. The way he is training now and playing was exactly the same in Abu Dhabi. Riyad in important games is fantastic.”

Manchester City continued to frustrate Chelsea this season, with losing another silverware trophy, with Champions League remains their only hope. The Blue side failed to execute their plan of containing City’s strikers and as the match went on, they continued to break apart and performed like an amateur without any kind of concrete plan.

Graham Potter, Chelsea manager is losing his time with the team after this disappointing defeat – the manager suffered huge boos. Potter said that “the first half was painful and tough for us all. We were second best to a very, very good side. We were not in a great moment and even though it was a cagey first 20 minutes we couldn’t attack the backline well enough. Manchester City are very good at stopping you doing that but at the same time we struggled.”

Graham Potter believes that Chelsea fans must be patient similar to Guardiola’s first season with Manchester City. “You understand the supporters’ frustration, we respect that. There are always other opinions and negativity and criticism because the results haven’t been positive. That’s part of the job and part of the challenge.”

To no surprise, Pep Guardiola agreed to the Englishman’s take on the booing. “I would say to Todd Boehly, ‘Give him time’. I know in the big clubs the results are important but I would say give him time. What he has done in Brighton was outstanding, but all managers need time. We needed time in my first season.”

It was seen that the Police in Etihad stadium, including stewards are moving into the away section to remove Chelsea fans throwing their drinks and other objects towards the field as an act of showing their frustrations.
